Ah. The antivirus is behaving like a virus itself? Too bad.
First, stop it, by right clicking on the task bar icon and stopping it. Next uninstall from control center >> add/remove software.
Computer goes off line coz. there is no network activity, and probably it is configured to go off line in case of no netactivity for a specific time.

Im going to guess that the antivirus that you have a problem uninstalling is Norton since I have rarely seen problems with others. However since there are various versions of the same I cant give you the correct directions . However this searchr esult should give you some help fi youre having problems with Norton (that is if you are using Norton)
http://www.google.com/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=uninstall+norton+antivirus&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
As for going offline . Are you using a dialup? If so check the idle time disconnect. Go to Start > Connect > The Connection you use > Properties and then Options and check the time specified there.

You have to go to your task manager (the usual control alt delete) and find the antivirus and all of it's children and shut them down by selecting end process. Then you can uninstall it. Make sure you do find a good antivirus to replace it. Read forums like over at majorgeeks.com for a good one or download.com and read the user comments about the program before you choose one to install. Different programs work better or worse depending on your style (the way you use your computer) and your operating system.
Also, you may have your internet connection set to disconnect if no longer needed, sometimes that also means when you may be idle for a great period of time, like a long time typing on a blog.

Is it Norton? As Norton have built in resistance that will not let you uninstall without an uninstallation code. These are available free from here http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039.
The apparent purpose is to stop a virus that removes the program before attacking the system or stopping you from accidentally deleting the program and leaving your system vulnerable.

Your anti-virus program is probably running. Put mouse pointer on tool bar there below and right click. This opens a menu. Go to task manager and click. Find your program antivirus, highlight it and tell the manager to end task. Then you will be able to uninstall it as normal in the control panel.
HTH GL (hope this helps, good luck)!

What antivirus program is it? Antivirus programs generally protect themselves so they can't be easily disabled by a malicious program. You may need to disable them from starting up to uninstall them. As for going offline (I presume you mean offline rather than online) what is your setup, what kind of internet access, wired or wireless, etc?

Can't uninstall if the program is running. Open your anivrus program & disable all start up features. Then either go through the CONTROL PANEL to uninstall or START >PROGRAMS

You didn't say WHICH anti-virus you had installed, so it is hard to answer that. You probably have your power management set on the NIC so that it is turned off after a period of inactivity. That would drop your connection.

I think you are infected. you should run an online scan just to be sure of HOW infected you are
Go to http://www.infectedornot.com and try one of the new tools from Panda Software. They let you try their new NanoScan and TotalScan for free as part of their new campaign "Infected Or Not?"
