Or, is this a half-truth?

No news does not always mean it's good news. Whoever may be delivering the news might not know how to convey it.

There is no such thing as half truth or full truth either it's a lie of it's the truth.

(Example) There is no such thing as being half pregnant either the woman is or is not.

Not everyone can accept my way of thinking but nonetheless it is logical.

Truth

It's not something that can be generalized, since all situations are different. However, in my own life, it seems like "no news is good news" has indeed applied a great deal. :)

Here are some examples of when receiving NO news = GOOD news:
- waiting for lab results where I'd only be contacted right way if the results were abnormal, and not getting contacted
- waiting for a phone call from a friend in case their car broke down and they needed a ride, and not getting called
- checking an airline schedule to see if it's running late or having troubles, and finding no new schedule updates
- writing a letter to the jury duty/court system explaining why I needed to be excused, and not hearing back from them (they only re-contact you if your request as been denied)
- sending an income tax payment to the IRS, back when I used to do my own taxes, and not hearing from them (I always feared I was mis-calculating the figures, and you can bet the IRS would've contacted me if I owed them more!)

To me this is a half truth. It depends on the situation.

What's the situation?

Say you're waiting on someone to come in from out of town and you know there supposed to be there at 3:00 and it's 5:30 and you haven't heard from them, I would say thats bad.

Say you've fudged on your taxes and you're waiting for a phone call to say that you're being audited and your phone never rings, well then, that saying would ring true

It could go either way.

If the only news you're waiting on is likely to be bad, then no news is good news.

Half true. That's the optimist in me speaking.
