They show up at your door right when you are sitting down to dinner or sleeping in on saturdays, they preach at your local grocery store, they go to our colleges, they work with you and in passing mention the word of christ, where to you draw the line. If you are not religious how do you politely tell them to go screw themselves. If you are religious, why would you try to force someone into something that it is obvious that they have already made up their mind on??

I grew up in a town full of that! The peer pressure there was not to have sex, take drugs and listen to rock 'n roll - it was "join my church", "No, don't join his church, join MINE" etc. I am NOT exaggerating when I say that these kids held prayer meetings on the playground at recess! Because I have always believed in reincarnation and dared to say so, I was regarded as something slighly worse than the German Measles.
The only way TO handle that was grit my teeth, grin and bear it, and ride it out till I grew up and was finally in a position to leave that place for GOOD!

You further ask WHY people do this?
THAT is the easiest part of the question to answer. It is the same reason that an ex-smoker is a more vehement opponent of tobacco than a non-smoker and an ex-drinker is a more avid supporter of prohibition than a non-drinker. They can't STAND to see someone else have something that they secretly (maybe even sub-consciously) want, but believe they can't have for themselves.
In the case of religion, it is not the use of an addictive substance, but the freedom from whatever restrictions their religion places on their behavior that they secretly envy - to the point of desperately wanting to destroy it. The more people they can convert, the more will share those restrictions with them and the fewer will live free of them. Ergo, the less their own feeling of deprivation and sacrifice.

Anyone who feels the need to push their religion on someone else. Do so because they have a need to validate what they believe. Other wise why would they feel the need to ? Most think they will get extra points in heaven for forcing themselves on others.
I have also noticed that those who do this seem to have the most problem with the rest of us having the right to NOT chose their belief system.Just try to tell them you don't believe in their god you will notice how fast they are to judge or bug the crap out of you .This is a sure sign of religion not spirituality.Just feel bad for them they are turning more people off, then rounding them up for brainwashing.I have used so many smart remarks in my time .But now I just let them talk while I am walking away.

As long as it's just a 'verbal' push , I can deal .
I am a pro at " oh, I am uber busy now , maybe another time " . . .
As long as they don't need to abduct me to 'convert' me , it's no big deal ,
Actually it's about the same as all the lame excessive use of guns in movies .
Now sometimes , people need shooting ,
But most movies are just an over expenditure of a high volume of ammo.

The world is pushy , I just find it a form of entertainment . (I'm Buddhist)

It tells me that their religion is a farce. It seems like they are getting paid to do such things. And anyone who's doing it for nothing is an annoying fool. They have a whole marketing campaign. Flyers, pamphlets, TV ads. And they don't seem to give up, like they are pro salesmen. I'll join no religion filled with fools. Yeesh.

i think it's thought less and rude but at the same time they are intitled to it... it's like any other club or group even event that an area would ahve a reason to advertise...

how can you use your product when no one is there!

just use that big ignore button in your head and kindly say i'm not intrested...

I realize that they do it because part of their job of serving God is spreading the good news of the gospel, but yes, it is irritating. Especially when you don't share their beliefs and you're just trying to go about your business.

"religious" is the notice you're seek for. speaking approximately religious human beings "who push their faith directly to others", is analogous to speaking approximately moist water, i think of this is called a redundancy.
