x² + 2x - y + 3 = 0

x² + 2x - y + 3 + y = 0 + y

x² + 2x + 3 = y

The left side of the equation

the middle term is + 2x

find the sum of the middle term

Multiply the first term 1 times the last term 3 equals 3 and factor

factors of 3 =

1 x 3. . .Use these factors

+ 3 and - 1 satisfy the sum of the middle term

1 = x

insert + 3x and - x into the eqution

x² + 2x + 3 = y

x² + 3x - x + 3 = y

x(x + 3) - 1(x + 3) = y

(x - 1)(x + 3)

- - - - - - - - -s-

x^2 +2x-y +3=0
x^2 +2x= y-3
x^2 +(2x)/2 +(2/2) = y - 3+ (2/2)
x^2 +2x +1= y - 3 +1
(x +1)^2 = y- 2
y= (x+1)^2 + 2
