I read this story about this guy from "www.carsurvey.org". It was under "Chevrolet", and then "Corvette, and then "2005", and then under the review "Good".

This guy bought a brand new show room Corvette with as the dealers told him "Scratches only in the clearcoat." He belived and bought the car and the car's scratches never went away and were later more noticeable than ever.

Whether the body's fiberglass or metal, if there are ANY kind of scratches in it, never in just the the clearcoat and will indeed to be repaired, right?

Scratches may be in the clear coat, deeper into the colorcoat or even deeper into the fiberglass. The buyer should never signed the purchase contract without the vehicle being delivered in satisfactory new condition.

If you mean the little swirl marks yes. If the scratch doesn't go away after you put a dab of turtle wax paste on it and try to rub it out...NO. Some clearcoat scratches may appear to be deaper because wax may have dried in the scratch making it look white and look as though it is down to the primer coat.
A good pastse wax or rubbing compound rubbed and then buffed should tell you if it was just in the clearcoat.

You can have scratches in just the clear coat. Paint is applied on in layers...think of about 5 pieces of paper stacked on top of each other. If you take a knife and glide it across the paper it probley will not go through all of the, just like a scratch can scratch only the clear coat. It would have to be a very light scratch though to only scratch the clear coat

Most dealerships have a body shop. Say, well if it is such a small thing then send it back to the body shop and have them buff it out. If the salesperson says that they cannot do it then say well if it is too big a problem for you guys to fix then why do you expect me to just accept it. Be careful and don't let them charge you for fixing scratches on their car before they sell it to you.

right...but if it is just in the clear coat, it won't cause any lasting damage, or get worse. If it is in the body or metal, then it could begin to rust from underneath.
