The cervix must be 100% effaced or thinned out and dilated to 10 cm in order for the baby to be safely born. You can be 50% effaced and starting to dilate for a week or so.

Labor can move along slowly...your cervix needs to thin out more, and then it gradually opens as the weight of your baby presses on it with each contraction. It might still be a week or two until you're in active labor and ready to deliver. Congrats on your new little one!

I believe your cervix has to be 100% for you to dialate completely. You can look forward to having your child relatively soon. With my first daughter I dialated to 2 cms for a while and ended up being induced later. CONGRATS!!!

I don't want to be rude, but why ask such a question from amateurs, when you should be asking your doctor?
