Comunication is important but it is not the meaning of life.

Catholics believe the meaning of human life is to know and love God.

With love in Christ.

We do both already have since the first radio wave was transmitted, since radio waves just keep going thus if ypou were far enough away from earth you could catch the first ever radio transmit from earth, as far has listening, its called the SETI project , it is a radio receiver that scans more then 5 million different freq on a search for intelagent life. now personally i think you would be living under a rock to assum we are the only intellagent life forms, miliions an millions of stars...
if just 1% of all suns had planets, and 1% of them had some form of life, an 1% of them some form of what we call intellagent life, and 1% of them were has we are in this tech age......you would still be looking at millions of possible life forms. then again if youi meen life like human life? the enviroment and the way things happened here on earth yes have the possible outcomes of simalar life forms, but we adapted to this...evolution is every where, here on earth we dont need appendix anymore...little finger...small toe...are evolution is still goin on, so the question is how far has another progressed on there evolution scale? or where are they on ours? but the answer to your question...Live an love, forgive those who have brought darkness!

It would rather be the true meaning of human kind, as listening back is (as for now) impossible in a single life time.

In any case, if directed that into searching and communicating with other lifeforms, our purpose would be to try to communicate and then to either learn, trade (knowledge, for example) or teach, depending on the other species' knowledge and abilities.

IF there is intelligent life, it will find us - because god knows that we wont find it. So sitting by and listening out for any sign that there is intelligent life out there will be pointless.

In the meantime, the search goes on for intelligent life on this planet....
