What a impressive question. As a Canadian, I regularly have puzzled this suitable element. How unhappy that's to make certain the solutions right here. I desire i could desire to assert I be apologetic with regard to the various hours getting to understand approximately American background, yet i don't. we are taught and instruct each and every thing from the touchdown of the pilgrims by way of to different learn of each and every Presidential election. i think of in 1976, I understood how the US elects a president than maximum individuals. nicely, i develop into 11 then, yet that background lesson specific got here in available in 2000! In Canada we study American, British, ecu, Canadian and American background before graduating from intense college. possibly this is what provides some human beings a deeper expertise of international activities. Canadian background isn't extraordinarily thrilling. No civil conflict, purely one assassination of a central authority minister and one assassination of a Minister of a Provincial government. we've in no way invaded all and sundry and not making use of an announcement of conflict. Invented the UN Peace conserving forces, and have sought communicate over violence. possibly we've found out from the blunders of others by analyzing their background. I desire American background scholars could have a similar benefit.

I like Canadian writer Mordecai Richler. My favourite of his would be "Solomon Gursky Was Here" but the "Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz" is considered to be his classic. He wrote kids books and about sports as well. He loved fishing, cigars, whiskey, women, hockey, baseball and snooker. He is much missed.

Are you talking contemporary books or historical? One fairly recent British best seller was Saturday by Ian McEwan. It was a very good read. Pax - C.
