Get a brad nailer that accepts up to 2 1/2 inch brads. One good one is all you need, unless you are a framing carpenter. THEN you need a different nailer.
Some brad nailers also accept "u" tacks as well. That will save you getting another specialized one.

I agree with pumken. For DIY jobs you don't need a huge compressor. Sure it will run a lot if you use a large nailer like a framing or roofing gun but if you are using a brad nailer, it won't run all the time. A framing nailer and a brad nailer are the two guns that can do the most damage. I use a brad nailer with 2 1/2" nails for balusters and spindles and going through thick drywall and trim. I use 1 1/2" galvanized nails for fence boards using a framing nailer. 3" galvanized works good for deck framing.

I am really sorry to disagree with contributors, but I guess that is why you seek opinions. I don't think a brad nailer (which correctly is what you will use inside your home for baseboards, trim, molding, etc and with staples available on some models). But decking? and fencing? You will probably need a nail gun for those. If you aren't going to do this professionally, but, rather as an occassional do-it-yourselfer, then you can go relatively cheap.

The old saying you get what you pay for is generally correct. So, cheap won't last as long or, perhaps, perform as well. You can get by with a small compressor (high pressure, low volume). Harbor Freight (bad words to some) has inexpensive airtool supplies including the guns. Lowe's and Home Depot are also possiblities.

Good luck.

(By the way, I bought a Harbor freight nailer and have been using it for 5 years. No problems yet. Cost about $50 on sale.)

Figure out what types and size of nails you will use, and work back from there. You will probably need a framing nailer for decks and fencing, and a finishing nailer for interior work. I think one of the small double tank compressor units at Home Depot will be fine, for under $100 including the finishing nailer and accessories. The framing nailer will have to be purchased separately for about $200.

There isn't a nailer that could do all that, the best all rounder for interior work is a 16 gauge nail gun.

as for decks and fencing a bostitch coil nailer would do the trick.

Nailing down deck boards is fine and ignore anyone who suggests otherwise, DIY stores promote them because they are more expensive than nails hence more cash in their pocket not yours.

anyone who would like to disagree should try the latest hurriquake nails from Bostitch

Make sure u buy a decent size size airtank and powerfull compressor. These cheap ones are fine for small jobs but the compressor keeps running non stop trying to keep up with u, even at times u will beat the compressor to it and it runs out of air, so u have to wait till tank builds up again.
So in the end , u will save urself money by spending a bit more on a good one , rather than buying a cheap 0ne and selling it for peanuts.

No, it won't artwork. the subject is that the compressor which you're finding to purchase is designed to top off tires, and the connections on the hose won't in any respect artwork for a nail gun. Spend $a hundred at sears opr residing house depot and purchase a real compressor. seem for something small, one million hp and 3-6 gallon tank. it extremely is extra beneficial than you're able to ever want, even with the undeniable fact that it extremely is going to continuously get the activity finished.

It is more cost effective in the long run to purchase a higher price compressor and nail gun than trying to save money and getting a lower cost one.
There are to major problems with buying cheap, first the compressor will be under size and you will spend a lot of time waiting for it to pump up to pressure. Secondly the nail gun if cheap will be difficult to load the nails, probably wont be able to take a range of different nail and will not be able to hammer longer nails to there full depth.
