Why is it that, most of times, the word "thin" is considered as a compliment, whereas "fat" an insult in terms physical/body?

I mean both statements are in a "judging somebody" category. -- and I know a lot of you would say, "it's not okay to judge somebody."

Judging is normal. I don't know why people always say they don't judge anyone...yes they do! Everyday we make judgments. What matters is the kind of judgment. Is it righteous judgment or unrighteous judgment. That's the difference folks. Anyway...

Thin Vs. Fat. Well, to me it seems that society dictates what is and is not a compliment. The constant barrage of negativity towards "overweight" people by the media, magazines, and advertisements has an effect whether we acknowledge that or not. It has caused us to be unrighteous judgmental to the point of condemnation. That is not good.

That's my two cents.

I would love to be thinner than I am, however, both coments are saying 'you aren't normal...you either have less, or more than you should' - which should be considered a insult in both cases.

I agree with you.

Plus - who is to say what is 'normal' body fat? Who or what are they comparing it to? And it is because of people like this that others want to gain or lose weight - to impress the one who just insulted you!!

I know I am fat - in my own eyes I can see it. I wouldn't mind being thinner - to be healthier, and to have more energy for my child. However - I will stop trying to lose it when I feel it is appropriate - not somebody who wants to judge me!

Good point!

None of us have the right to tell others about their bodies unless there is a serious health risk present.
I have been on both sides of this issue in my life.
If someone told me I was too fat, all I could say was "Gee, really? You think so? I hadn't noticed."
Now they tell me I'm too thin. I tell them my weight is between my doctor and myself. As long as he and I are happy with how I'm doing weight-wise, I don't care what other people think.
