For example, when I close a Word file, it toggles to Excel or Eudora, instead of staying in Word. I would like it to stay in the application I am in, not move me to a different one. How can I do this?

Typically windows will toggle to the previously accessed application, or task if you close one.

The newer versions of office treat each object they open as a separate "task" in the task bar. So if you close your last object open in word, the task for that document closes, and windows creates a new one for MS Word without a doc, which goes to the end of the list of tasks. So if you toggled between your Word doc and an Excel spreadsheet, the spreadsheet is the next one on the list.

I don't think there's any way to change this behavior.
