Well... the Earth is tasty and the Sun is not. And the Sun is full of gas and the Earth is not.

But if you're talking about size, then no. The Sun has a diameter that is 109 times the diameter of Earth (link 1). A basketball has a diameter of about 250 mm. So if the Sun were a basketball, the Earth would be something only 2 mm across... maybe a ball bearing.

A peanut is way too big, though.

If the earth were the size of a single peanut, the sun would be closer to the size of a beach ball.

I just measured a peanut--1 cm wide and 1.75 cm long. We'll use the width of the peanut to represent the earth's diameter, as that is more uniform.

Earth's diameter is 12756 km.
Sun's diameter is 1400000 km.

12756/1400000 = 1 cm/ x, or 110 times earth's diameter (110 cm). The circumference of a basketball is 78 cm, giving it a diameter of only 25 cm.

So an earth the size of a peanut would compare to a sun four times as wide as a basketball--closer to the size of those big plastic beach balls.

The Earth is 8000 miles across, and the sun is 864,000 miles across - more than 1000X Earth's diameter.

Think of it this way: If the sun was a ball 10 feet across, the Earth would be a ball slightly bigger than 1/8 of an inch across.

An interesting followup is, if the earth was the size of a peanut, and the sun was a beachball (109 times larger than the nut) how far apart would you have to place them?

If the earth was a peanut, the sun would still be a ball of fire.

If the Earth was 12cm (4.8") in diameter, the sun would be 10 meters (33'). The linear size relationship is about 80:1
Depending on where you look, sizes are not all given the same everywhere.

Even a peanut would be too big. You need a very small pea, or a largish pinhead to be right. The diameter of the Sun is 100 times that of Earth.

According to a picture I saw on the subject, (artist rendering) the earth size is more like a BB (BB gun type) and the sun more the size of a beach ball. Sun is 100 times the size of earth. :-)

False.

The sun would be bigger.

Its 110 times the diameter of Earth roughly.
