Every child is different.... my children are overall healthy. My oldest has only been sick a handful of times with a cold or allergies. My two girls have only had one ear infection. Yet my cousin's has four children and it is always that one has a bad cold/flu or trouble with their eye. Then my other cousin's kids have asthma and other problems and are always visiting the hospital- poor kids.
A baby refusing to eat is not being sick . The baby is not hungry. Children go thru phases of eating and not eating.
What does your doctor say????
What do you think???
Have fun with your baby they grow up way too fast to let this get you down...
Good Luck

I couldn't believe what I was reading! I have been going through the exact same thing with my 14 month old. He was perfectly healthy the first year and now he's costantly coming down with colds or losing his appetite. T he first thing the doctor always says is it's probably from daycare but my son has never been in any daycare!

Unless your pediatrician is concerned, I wouldn't worry about it. That all sounds like normal baby stuff. Their little immune systems just aren't capable of fighting off all the illness that we are all exposed to every day. Question - did you or do you breastfeed? It has been proven that breastfed babies do catch fewer "bugs" because they get the benefits of mom's antibodies and resistance to everyday viruses and bacteria.

To answer your original question, my baby is 5 months old and has had no illness except for a mild case of pinkeye when she was 2 months.

I think the statistics for how many colds a child gets in their first year is six. We've already had one with our nearly 5 month old. She also has eczema that we are using trial and error with to try to clear up--one trial method per week. With our first child, he only got a few colds his first and that was it, pretty easy. I don't think your baby sounds overly unhealthy from what you described--my little 7 month old nephew has already spent a week in the NICU at birth and been back in on a respirator for a few days, so things could be worse.

It's pretty normal, some babies just are more prone to illness than others...for example my son (now 4) wasn't sick at all until he was 18 months old and has an iron stomach. My daughter who is 7 1/2 months old has had bronchitis, strep, and a sinus infection and is severely allergic to milk and soy...so there ya go LOL

stomach flu and refusing to eat are much better than what you will experience in the future..like when he starts teething and hell have loose stools about 10 times a day for about a week..+++

outside of my son being a little jaundice at birth and having hernia surgery at 3 months, both my son and daughter were rarely ill. i stayed home with my son until he was 4 and my daughter went to daycare at 6 weeks.

Welcome to parenthood!

If your child is in daycare, he/she is more likely to get sick more often (not my stat, that comes from my pediatrician).

Really, though, the things you described are just normal baby illnesses. As they get older, they tend to get sick less often, until they start school.
