someone close to me rec'vd an email from a man saying that he is a attorney of a man that passed away with the same last name as my friend and that my friend can get the money from the deasced man. i guess the attorney was left money but he cant get it until a next of kin makes a claim to get the money. the attorney is saying my friend will get 40% and he will get 60% of a very very large sum of money. now my friend isnt related to this dead man but they have the same last name and the attorney cannot find any living family relatives...so this attorney wants the money and needs my friend with the same last name to help him, he sent my friend his ID and certificate of proof that hes a attorney, how illegal is this? how ture could this be? what should my friend do...

If you are not kidding - and I'm not sure you're not, no, you should run from this - it's a pretty well known scam.

This is 100 percent legal...attorneys send these types of things in writting...not through e-mail.

You should not get involved with this or you will possibly face criminal charges if caught.

Also I would propose you send this attorney's information to his state bar association...it is possible he is not an attorney and is initiated in the unatuthorized practice of law...and if he is an attorney...encouraging you to engage in illegal activity is a disbarment offense for attorneys.

Scam!!!!! Your friend should call the Bar Association and ask about him, or have a reputable attorney check him out.

Have your friend get his own attorney to contact the other attorney. If it's for real, he'll be able to take care of it.

If your friend isn't next of kin, the attorney is committing a crime. Report it.

This sounds like a scam to me... real lawyers don't just email people.

Solid gold. Did he buy into any Nigerian scam emails as well? Maybe I could sucker him into something stupid as well.
