I am 37 weeks pregnant with #2 here, I am having mutiple braxton-hicks contractions daily, and today I am having backpains really bad when I set on the couch. I had my first child early so never had any of these expirences it seems. I have had no *bloody show*, but am wondering if it could be getting close to time to start labor. Baby's movement today is MUCH more than yesterday too. I live an hour away from the hospital (with no traffic) and am only going to that one for a VBAC. When you live away from the hospital, how do you know when to go also?

Edit/Details: I didn't have a real labor last time, my water broke at 35 1/2 weeks and they induced me, which lead to an emergancy c-section because my daughter was a bungee-cord baby. I have never felt what I am feeling now, so I am a bit confused. I did call the doctor, they said unless it is regular don't bother coming in. Traffic is light today atm so we are not worried about getting there yet heh. I guess I am worse than a 1st time mom because I have no clue but already have a baby. Not having regular contractions atm just light back pain when I sit down, and more baby movement than usual. Braxton-hicks remain regular every 20 min with no pain, just pressure, but that has been the case for 2 weeks now.

It sounds like you could be in labor today or in a month. The last few weeks of pregnancy are just like that.
I lived more than an hour away from the birth center where I was planning to deliver my baby. My midwife told me to start driving when my water broke or when I had been having contractions lasting 45 to 60 seconds every 5 minutes for an hour. That should get you to the hospital in plenty of time without having you there for most of early labor. If you start having regular contractions and you think labor will start soon, eat a nice meal with your family and take a shower before you head out because chances are once you get to the hospital your doctor won't want you to eat and labor is hard work - you don't want to do it on an empty stomach.

Well, you can always call the labor and delivery department at the hospital and talk to a nurse there and tell them what you are experiencing.
Your back pains might just be the baby moving lower into the pelvis. Try laying down and doing some stretches, or get on your hands and knees and rock back and forth to help stretch out those pelvic bones.
Even if you go there right now, do you really want to sit there all day or maybe for 2 days? They could probably hook you up to a monitor and check your contractions, but if they are more than 5 minutes apart, it's going to be a while.
So, better to go through early labor at home. But, you know yourself best!
Good luck!!!

I'd say you're pretty close to having this baby. I never felt my water break or saw any bloody show. If you can, call your OB and tell him over the phone how you're feeling and what's going on. He should be able to tell you over the phone if it sounds like it's time to head out. Since you live so far away from the hospital, I wouldn't want to wait around too much just in case. Especially since you have your other baby. Don't wait too long. Remember it is an hour drive to the hospital!

OOOOhhhhh. Like everyone said, call the doc.
I stayed at work with my Braxton-Hicks , started around 4 PM and I went home at 9 PM. By midnight, I was awake with horrible back pain that was coming and going at 10 minutes apart. After I threw up, my man said let's go and she was born at 3:20, so very short back labor unless you counted it from 4 PM, and they had to break my water. I was lucky, but sure glad I was close to a hospital.

Normal pregnanics is from 37 - 40 weeks. Your body is getting ready to have a baby. You should wait until your contractions are 5 mins apart before going to the hospital. Their are sick people in hospitals, hospitals are the best place to get an infection. You will get bored if you go to early, but waiting until there 5 mins apart your not exactly ready to give birth when you get there but you have to sign in, and get comforable, and settle in.

It could be both. You may want to see a doctor for the flu like symptoms and make sure it is just that. Also, just o make sure that you are not in labor.
