"To have a bad future is better than having no future."

This quote actually scares me. I am terrified of the idea of my life's story ending at one point, and that I would be out of the picture. I am not talking about death. I am talking about being defeated. Broken. Humiliated.

The notion of having hope with the future, and that it may be better than today, is what keeps me going. But is it possible that someone would accept going to a bad future to having no future at all? Please explain your thoughts in detail about this.

And yes, there were moments where I lost my will to even try to work for a future. It wasn't suicide in my mind. It was just stepping aside and letting life have its way with me.

I never wanna go back to that place again.

The quote is Bull s$#@. Live in the present There is no future.....
only the ever present now.

If you would like a positive future live in the now. I was scared of defeat myself. I had to realize that the way I saw the world was wrong. Everything that I thought I knew was false...
I started to live in the now and fear left me.

I think the quote is a loaded question!

Everyone is responsible for their own future and destiny. I think that being defeated, broken, and humiliated gives you an opportunity for re-birth! A chance to change! Do not be afraid to fail. Failure means you attempted to do something, and you didn't stand by and let life "own" you!

I think we are optimistic to the core, inherent by nature. No one wants to stand by and take it on the chin....but some people are afraid of action!!! and that leads to a world of pain and suffering!

It will be better, you have to make it better. It is your life, take control over it!! That's what people are thinking, they just don't act on it!!

Empower yourself now, take the world! Use that last sentence as your personal mission statement!!!

I don't agree with this quote unless one is in poor physical health. There are no bad futures. You must make a real effort to change and adapt to your circumstances.

If I lost my assets, family and friends tomorrow I'm sure that I could find eventual happiness living in a homeless shelter. I've read a little on Bhudism. I believe they think this way.

I think it is a foolish remark.

It reminds me of "It is better to be Red than dead" or "I'd rather live on my knees than die on my feet".

The only way I could put a positive spin on your quote is if I concluded that "hope" is eternal and as long as you are alive, "have a future", you can have hope.

All that said, I have to agree with the crux of your contention. There are worse things than being dead. IMO humiliation and demoralization are but two of them.

I'd rather have no future if I knew that I was going to have a bad one. But you should be the person that decides whether your future will be good or bad.

I think that you have control over your life. If you have a bad future, you have a chance at making it better. If you have no future, you just have no future.

I believe to some degree we control our own destiny. We have to be strong and persevere. I believe that positive thinking can produce positive results and that negativity is counterproductive.
