Why do Americans hate berets?

I find them nice, they make guys look smart and women beautiful.

You know the saying: "Clothes make the man"? We are afraid if we wear a beret we might be as arrogant and rude as a frenchman.

I think they can look very cute and cool, on the right person. I think you have to have a little attitude to pull it off.
