Apart from being illegal it is downright stupid. Children need all the education they can get to succeed in this life, the more the better. To deprive a child like that is criminal. I mean, look at your spelling and grammar. You make several mistakes so how is your friend going to manage?

Look what you should have said:

My friend is 16 and claims to be home schooled but she is always at my house during the day or working at her job. She works as an 'in house nanny', (don't ask me how she got that kind of job, it's still a mystery to me). She said that her mom took her out of school because she did not like the environment she was in and was doing an online course but stopped. I just wanted to know.

Most states make provision for home schooling, but also require tests to show progress. This girl's mother is doing her no favors by depriving her of an education. The girl should demand that she be provided with course work so she has a chance of succeeding in life. She can't be a nanny for the rest of her life.
Different states have different truancy requirements, especially for a child over the age of 16, so not sure if the parent would "get in trouble", but the daughter is already in trouble by not having an education.

Different states have different laws but in most states children are only required to attend from age 7-16. At 16 the child would have the option to go to school.

I homeschool my children for their junior and senior years for the same reason. There are things going on at school that I would rather they not be exposed to.My daughter was able to complete both grades in one year. My son went to college then joined the Navy and has an excellent career in there. My daughter went straight into the Air Force and scored the highest in her class.

Homeschooling is not for everyone but if your friend is completing her work and learning enough to give her the life she wants to live then it is no one's business.

As for you, don't worry about your friend. Concentrate on your education and focus on spelling and grammar.

Yes, you can. Homeschooling (if that is actually what she is doing) is legal. In some states, you can legally drop out of school at 16, and what she is doing would no longer be illegal, but that doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.

Under other circumstances, if she was younger and had stopped the online courses without finishing high school, he parents could go to jail for it.
