There has been no "best American" in any election in the 75 years. People start paying attention a month before the elections begin and they only see what the news reports and what the candidates want them to see, completely forgetting about the nonsense that they've pulled in the past. All of the posturing and mudslinging comes to a head, and we vote, and those of us that know what's going on scream and cry bloody murder when the wrong man announces candidacy, the wrong man gets the nomination, and the wrong man gets elected.
Maybe that's elitist of me, but you know what? A recent poll showed that 69% of a representative sample knew who the Vice President was. Not even half knew that Pelosi was Speaker of the House. Two thirds knew who their governor was.
American civic participation is the joke.

The entertainment value has just begun. Considering the way things are going, we're in for a long election season. It's gonna get uglier and uglier. I just wish politicians addressed the issues affecting our country, not just their opponent's personal lives.
