I would suggest "the university of texas at Austin" or "amarillo college" in amarillo texas. Unfortunatelt the kansas citry school no longer exists as it once did or I'd suggest that. I think I might also try an apprenticship at a good gallery.

There's about a bajillion of them and it depends on what you are interested in.

Top-flight art institutes include:

Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI
New York Academy of Fine Art in NY NY
Grand Central Academy of Fine Art in NY NY
National Academy of Design in NY NY
Pratt Institute in NY NY
Cooper Union in NY NY
The Art Institute of Chicago
Center for Creative Studies in Detroit
Ringling School in Florida
Lyme Academy in Old Lyme, CT
Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia
Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore
The Bostom MFA Museum School in Boston
The Gage Academy in Seattle

Get in touch with these colleges with web searches -- they all have web sites. Ask them to mail you a catalog of the school and spend some time looking them over.

A fantastic resource for learning about where the schools are is the National Portfolio Day web site. Art schools participate in portfolio review consortiums regularly all over the country, which gives you a concentrated way of getting and giving initial interviews for a lot of different schools, and a good way to get feedback on your portfolio. If you don't have a portfolio you can still go and ask questions about the schools.
