Can someone tell me why a car needs a new ignition control module? This is what the shop is telling me and I just wanted to get other opinions - what is the car driving like when this needs to be replaced? Any help or information would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks!

There is definitely a driving problem - I thought it was transmission. The car doesn't really upshift and seems to get stuck in a lower gear even at freeway speed. It's an automatic transmission but it feels like it gets stuck in like 2nd gear... I would love to not have to pay for a transmission repair, but I just want to know if this ignition control module fix will really fix the shifting... Does it maybe control the transmission?

It is at a transmission shop - now you have me VERY worried that they don't know what they're talking about! :)

The ignition control module has nothing to do with shifting. If defective, the engine will run very badly or not at all. If you can get to highway speeds, it's working. There are several sensors that will affect shifting but you should go to a different shop to have them diagnosed before these guys tell you its the turn flasher.

take your car and go to a transmission shop. this has NOTHING to do with your ignition control module, unless of course you are having a hard time starting or car stalls out while you are driving etc. it sounds like your shift control module might be on its way out so get that checked. shouldn't be very expensive to fix. i HATE mechanics like that it gives all us other mechanics trying to make a good name for ourselves look bad. good luck.

Take it somewhere else. Those clowns will just replace stuff at random without fixing anything as long as you give them money. What you're describing has nothing to do with an ignition control module.

I dont think it's your transmission at all, but I'm not a mechanic.

I would guess sparkplugs and plug wires, fuel filter or injectors first before I'd say it was your transmission.
