Use a small spray bottle with 91% (or higher) isopropyl alcohol. The alcohol cleans as well as dissolves grease/grime marks.

Use paper towels as the stuff left over from fabric softeners on cloth can leave film/streaks on glass.

Dump the CRT. Buy a flat screen LCD monitor. They are 30 lbs lighter and use a LOT LESS electricity.

CRTs can be cleaned easily - best bet is to get an anti-static wipe of some sort as to avoid creating static which just attracts more dust. Be careful using anything 'wet' (apart from moist wipes made specifically for screen cleaning) because the water may seep into the monitor and cause damage.

Flat panel monitors are commonly used in mobile devices such as laptop and table PCs. Similarly, smart phones, PDAs calculators have LCD screens. LCD screens are much softer than old CRT screens, so they required extra care as compare to the CRT Monitors.
First read the LCD manufacturer manual about your LCD model on how to safe and clean it.

To clean LCD monitor first unplugs your LCD power from the electrical outlet.

Never use dirty cloth, spray any cleaning fluids on the LCD screen and paper towel to dry it.

Always use dry cotton cloth to clean the fingerprints and dust on the LCD screen. You can use lightly dampened soft cloth if you feel any difficulty to clean the screen.

As long as monitor is off you can use anything. Plain old glass cleaner works well. As for cleaning the rest of the unit especially beat-up casings, use a scrub pad & good cleaner. If you use a good plastic cleaner be careful not to get on glass.

I regularly use a lint-free cloth. Then on a periodic infrequent basis I squirt the screen lightly with some Monster Screen Clean (which I also use on my plasma TV) and wipe clean

If you have no cleaning wipes, just use spray furniture polish.
Spray the cleaner onto the cloth, rather than on the screen.

Water and a rag. CRTs are pretty tough. LCD is where you have to be careful.

not the glass area on the exterior. in case you grew to become into to bust the cathode ray tube on the floor, then you definately might see some nasty "smoke" (effective debris) floating around, thats the assets you do not pick to touch or inhale. yet its completely okay to touch the exterior of it.
