I was told that you do that to protect them and keep them shiny. What other products I can use for that?

As the previous person stated, it works excellent on shower walls as well. It takes a while to put it on, take it off and shine it. But it is SO worth the effort. And yes, it will make your chrome shiney as well. However, windex does the trick also, but doesn't have the "water resistance" power that wax does.

Any wax that is made for wet surfaces will work. Unless you use an abrasive cleaner, chrome will not just deteriorate. Wax does put on a coating that repels water unlike polishes that just clean and shine.

car wax is fine. In fact, some people apply the car wax to the tile walls in the bath to keep water from sticking on it.

there is a product called rain-x, and it would work good too.

Someone once told me to put car wax on my bathroom mirror and it would not fog up...you could try a little bit at a time to see what happens, hopefully it won't mess it up.
