Live about 45 minutes from Detroit and know that there are TERRIBLE parts of the city and there is some corruption as far as the politics go, like Kwame in a nutshell, but I have been down there for about 100 different sporting events, as well as many trips to the DIA, the Opera House, weddings at The Whitney, and I know that Detroit can really be a great place to go...if you stay on the beaten path, Detroit is amazing, but I guess its like that with almost any major city, although for me, its tough to call Detroit a "major city."....I'm excited about them trying to build it up.

I've never been to Detroit. I'm under the "impression" that Detroit is an economically depressed city with all the significant racial and crime and homelessness that goes with that scenario.

Great sport loving city.
Downtown is being rennovated very nicely.
Good bars and restaurants.
Don't give the bums your money.
Don't go to the SW side after dark......

Be sure to visit the Detroit Institute of Arts

Highest crime rate, cheapest houses. For as cheap as their selling houses I would still live there. Living scared isn't a way to live. But there is reason to be scared. Don't walk at night! And don't stop at red lights! Other than that you'll probably be ok if you are street smart.

I have not been there for 15 years . What a dump. I was at old Tiger Stadium in the daytime . We had to have a security guard by our bus to prevent vandalism and robbery of the bus. It was like being in a third world country .

Cold (as in winter), very urban (with all the car manufacturers there) and lots of Motown music.

I've never been there, but want to visit someday.
