some shock the plants to new life with a slight trimming and lots of water others use miracle grow in gallons around the base about one gallon a week for two or cover the plant with a sheet or a plastic tarp to force flowering cover twelve hour then uncover for twelve this cycle shocks the growth hormones into early buds or just buy some root starter at a depot or kmart its for coating the roots to tranplant but here we use the hormones to bud out the plants mix it a teaspoon and sprinkle in a gallon of water near the roots of the plant if it doesnt rain next day water till damp it will seep to the root and cause the hormone shock to start the recovery most strong rooted plants survive on their own my lilac ive miracled since it was burned bad and i didnt cover it

Remove deadwood and fertilize. SC crepes got hit hard too, but new growth is starting again. Be patient.

You can cut it back and give it a root stimulator that you can purchase at any nursery or walmart.

If the tree/shrub is mature, you shouldn't have to do anything.
