SWG (Star Wars Galaxies)
Pros - Flexible skill system; very customizable character generator (though not as good as CoH); The ability to own buildings and run player created cities; Craft almost anything; more complex than WoW; can alter a character's appearance in game; it is possible to go through the game without combat (going a maker or dancer type)
Con - SWG has a tendacy to nerf things every once and a while and REALLY upset long term players; not as many users as WoW; more complex than WoW; unblanced weapons or obvious problems with weapon stats; the death penailty is more serious; skills are leveled through individual use, so skill progression can be VERY slow; crafting is a bit of a chore, and resource gathering can be a bear

WoW - (World of Warcraft)
Pros - Larger subscriber base; cleaner interface; less complex; more 'casual' gamer friendly, practically no death penality; World travel seems faster; crafting (and espetially resource gathering) is simpler; simpler gameplay
Cons- In my time WoW lag seems worse; inflexable class system, with only equipment and talents differentiating characters of the same class; crafting is VERY simple; less complex charcter apperance editor, and even then it means less and less as you get more powerful armor which covers you custom apperance; less complex

I play WoW - the best thing about it is how differently each person can play. Not only are there many different races and classes to choose to play - but you can also choose exactly how you play those characters (whether you want to be alliance or horde and how you spend your talent points). Another great feature is you can also choose how much you play. There are a lot of serious guilds and then you have a lot of causual guilds. There is definitely something for everyone. WoW is the most 'noobie' friendly game I have ever played. I really don't have a lot of negative things to say about it - besides the Tuesday mornings when the servers are down for maintance haha. Either way you go - I'm sure you'll have fun!
