I have a really bad head cold. A neighboor gave me some Tylenol Cold Head Congestion to help. I haven't been able to get a hold of my doctor and I took some. Is it going to hurt the baby? I know you can take Tylenol well pregnant but this has Dextromethorphan HBr and Phenylephrine HCI. So is it safe?

You are supposed to just have Tylenol reg. strength. It all depends on how far along you are too. I would defiantly not repeat taking Tylenol head and cold. Try sudafed ( regular) for the head cold. I know you can take that. But still if I were you I would let my doctor know what I took.

Tylenol is good for a fever hon, not for cold medicine when you are pregnant. Honestly the ONLY cold medicine I know of that you can take and is safe while you are pregnant is 8 hour Sudafed, not the 12 hour relief kind! So do yourself and your baby a favor and don't take anymore Tylenol Cold Medicine okay????

You really aren't supposed to take any kind of decongestant while pregnant because it drys you and your baby out. I don't think the dose you took is going to do damage. Try using Vicks vapor rub or getting some Eucalyptus oil and putting a few drops in steaming water and hold your face over it - this helped when i had an awful head cold. Unfortunately there aren't too many drugs that are okay for you to take when your pregnant and the colds are the worst. Make sure you take your prenatals and get your vitamin c either through eating oranges and such or drinking juice. Stay hydrated. Good luck and congrats:)

The only kind of sinus medicine you can take is plain SUDAFED. I'm sorry my dear, but you can't have Phenylalanine HCl. This is bad for the baby. You are fine if you stop taking it. Also, you don't know what it will do to you while you are pregnant because of your circulation being crazy.
Good luck, next time wait to talk to your Dr.

I dont think you are supposed to take certain cold meds during pregnancy, I know when I was pregnant 5 years ago with my oldest you could take sudafed, but when pregnant with my youngest which is almost 2 you couldnt take sudafed. Everything should be fine, just dont take it anymore without speaking to your doctor.

I don't have an answer for you, but I know where you can find out. If you have health coverage, usually on the back of the card is a 24 hours nurse's hotline.

I took that when I was pregnant. My doctor told me it was okay. But on your next check up ask and make sure.

Teratogenic in some animals.
No well controlled human data but suggested possible association with eye, ear, digital defects and club foot during first trimester exposure, and with musculoskeletal defects and umbilical hernia during exposure anytime during pregnancy.
It may cause uterine vessels spasm and potentiate the effects of oxytocic drugs on the uterus resulting in fetal hypoxia and bradycardia.
producing eye and ear defects, hypospadias, polydactyly, cataract and pectus excavatum in 1st trimester exposure and with congenital dislocation of the hip when used any time in pregnancy. It also may cause constriction of uterine vessels with subsequent fetal hypoxia and bradycardia.

Yes, it's dangerous.
