I just bought a HP Deskjet D4160 printer. I was hooking everything up when I realized that it didn't come with a USB cable. How do I know which cable will work with my printer?

I can tell you with 99% certainty that you will need a USB-A to USB-B cable. The A connector is the normal flat USB plug, like you see on a PC or flash drive. The B connector uses the same wiring, but is a square plug with the top corners rounded; these are common on printers and scanners.

A-to-B cables are a little harder to find in stores, but aren't rare or anything and won't cost any more than a few dollars.

The mini-USB cable from a digicam would not regularly fit a printer. the only for the printer is regularly the comparable one chanced on on exterior perplexing drives, scanners, or perhaps usb modems. It sounds like a sq. yet with between the components U formed. Edit: If no longer something happens, attempt plugging it into yet another USB port on their laptop. regularly you will hear a ding and it will say that it chanced on a gadget on the backside astonishing. verify you apart from mght turn the printer on.

All USB cables are NOT the same - they have different connectors - some for printers, some for cameras (mini), etc.

You need one with a USB "A" on one side and a USB "B" on the other side. I believe that all printers use this cable.

Any USB cable should work. Pick one up at any electronics store if you don't have one laying around.

Its becoming more common not to include the cable with the newer printers. Usually it will tell you on the box but who sits there and reads that.
