I live in the Rochester area - is it too early to put down the first step of Scott's Four Step?

No - it is time. The sun finally came out and you had lots of rain and snow. You need to get it down and get Step 2 down in 6 weeks.

No, and soon it will be too late. You need to get the pre-emergent down before the crabgrass sprouts. Step One doesn't eliminate weeds, it prevents them from sprouting. Once they sprout, it's pointless to put it down.

Maybe a little early - I usually put in on when forsythia are in bloom - mine are not blooming yet. The weather the lasdt few weeks has really delayed Spring!
