I was on their website but didn't see it listed among the attractions. If it's no longer there, does anyone know what year they shut it down and why?

20,000 leagues was closed down in 1994. It been in Magic Kingdom for 23 years and they closed it on the same day it opened, but 23 years later.

I was definitely sad to see it go, it was one of my favorite rides.

I will include a link with more info about the ride and its closing.

The 20,000 Leagues ride was shut down in 1994. Although many loved the ride for it's nostalgia and riding it when they were a kid, the ride was outdated. Disney does pride itself on keeping up to date with technology while still keeping old traditional favorites like It's a Small World (that song still haunts me) and the Swiss Family Robinson Tree house, Haunted Mansion and Hall of Presidents. Currently there is nothing in the lagoon that once held the ride, although when I was there last week it sure looked like to me they were getting ready to do something with it. The only thing near the lagoon now is Ariel's grotto where you can go and meet Ariel and her undersea friends.

FYI - the finding Nemo ride is in Epcot center in what used to be the Living Seas. Now it is a ride first, then an undersea exploration tank. Turtle Talk with Crush is also in this area, as well as the popular Coral Reef restaurant.

Hope this helps!!

I don't think most people really read your question because Finding Nemo is opening at DisneyLAND in California not DisneyWORLD in Florida.. since you said Disneyworld I'm assuming you mean Florida. 20,000 leagues closed in 1994 because it was costing a fortune to chlorinate that much water and the other general upkeep of an aquarium of that size was too much. Disney is all about return, and the cost was outweighing the people they thought it was bringing to the park. After it closed they realised it was also going to COST a fortune to tear it down... so they left it there for 10 years. A couple of years ago they drained it and most of the area is now wasted space. They turned a small portion of it into a winnie the pooh playground... thanks Disney, thats just what the park needed another playground!

It is now a ride about the movie Finding Nemo.

Since 1998 they have been renovating the ride. Scheduled to open on June 11, 2007.

Why? Because the ride was getting outdated. To appeal to young kids it needs to reflect modern stories / movies.

I was just at Disneyworld the first week of April. I didn't see this ride anywhere, but it was my first time there, so I couldn't tell you when they shut it down or why.

As a young kid a thousand years ago, I remember the ride fondly, especially after watching the movie.

It was closed down due to lack of popularity and because it was outdated by Disney's standards. A ride about Nemo has replaced it in the same location.
