LOL! She could of been just telling you what you want to hear, but more than likely she's right. Doctors are trained to know these things. What feels like a 'lump' to us, is what they are feeling ALL DAY EVERYDAY. Since she is a young doc, she just got out of med school, and everything is fresh in her head right now. At your next appt, which should be soon, ask again. OR, have the nurse feel you. They might put more time into feeling around, and the nurses aren't usually as rushed as the docs are. Not everyone has a "my baby is dropped" feeling. Depending on how YOUR body is made, and the size of your baby, it could feel like Lots of pressure down there, or feel like nothing at all. Just know that very soon you WILL be having this baby, one way or another!! :-)

Ok as for baby dropping...you will feel a breath of fresh air!! Seriously your breathing will become much easier! As for baby being in head down position?
Feels the top (fundus) of the uterus to determine if it's hard and round, like the head, or irregular and soft, like hands, feet and elbows.
Put your hands on both sides of the abdomen to determine on which side the baby's back lies. The back is smooth and convex, whereas the extremities have multiple parts. Discerning the location of the back helps considerably in determining the baby's position.
Place a single hand just above the pelvic bone to feel for the head (round and hard) versus little feet, ankles and knees (irregular and nodular).
Determine the exact position of the head and neck within the mother's pelvis (if the head is down there) and which way the baby is facing for delivery.
Maneuvers 1 through 3 can be tried at home, while the fourth is best left for the experts (it's quite difficult).

the doctor can tell if you've dropped by palpating your belly.
They can also tell with a pelvic. I always ask my doctor what position my baby is in.... Mine is head down, right-occiput transverse, and doctor tells me she won't move again until labor starts cause there is just no room.
Any decent OB should be able to tell you the position of your baby with a quick feel... that is OB "101" and a cinch for them..... I would trust what she told you of course, especially since she only gave you the barest of info. Just as important to know is whether the baby is "Occiput posterior" (when the baby is facing your front) or occiput anterior (much more desirable when baby is facing your butt) or transverse (facing sideways).
If you've dropped it will feel like so much more pressure and you will need to go the bathroom constantly. It would be really really early for the baby to have already dropped since that normally happens approximately 2 weeks before labor (for a first baby) and right before labor for subsequent labors.
Good luck!
I am 38.5 weeks along with my first pregnancy and haven't dropped yet...

Women who say they have dropped have experienced easier breathing and a heaviness or pressure in the pelvic region. Me personally I have not been able to tell with any of my pregnancies. Regarding position: I think you should trust your doc. She is the experienced one and has felt many a baby. It only takes a second to feel the baby's position.

Well, for one if she has only been practicing a year I would find a new doctor LOL.. My doctor had been practicing for about 5 years or longer when I had my first. And they can tell by the ultrasound what position he or she is in.. I have never had a doctor do that to tell me where the baby is.. Maybe she knows something we don't we arent doctors LOL.. Good luck!

Trust your doc, if you don't then find a new one.
As for when you drop--usually it suddenly gets much easier to breathe when baby drops.
Congrats and good luck!

Doctors don't give information for fun. They give you medically necessary information. Wait until you get the $300 bill for the 3 seconds.

i dont trust the feeling method at all. I think the ultrasound is the best way to determine fetal position.
