One should seek a truely Holy One, and then do what He/She says. For if u wish to be a carpenter, study with an accomplished carpenter. A doctor, with an accomplished doctor.

Books can never fully guide us to true mastership of an art or science. So, find an accomplished Holy Being, and study with them.

Holy means clean or sanctified. Most assume this should be as defined from God's viewpoint. Therefore, we should learn what God requires of us and do our best to follow that. Since we are imperfect, will make errors never be perfectly holy on our own. This is where the sacrifice on Jesus Christ and God's mercy comes in. On the basis of Christ's sacrifice God can declare us clean although we are undeserving.
1John 2:1&2.

Since you ask this Q in the "Philosophy" heading I'm sure there is much to debate since the topic can be subjective.

You don't have to "do" anything. You are holy by the very fact that you are a creation of God. Everyone is. Therefore we are all holy.

You can do whatever you want to do to honour that. You can study various religions and pick one and follow it if you want. Or not. God won't care. God will love you as is, regardless. Follow your own path and your own heart. Do what feels right for you. You don't have to follow anyone else's "rules" on this.

God bless!

Recognize and accept the distinction between Creator and creature, discern the purpose of your essential nature, cultivate detachment from your desires, emulate in your relationships the love that wills the good of the other as other, and not as an extension of your own ego-driven needs.

First ask the right people. Second never ask a philosopher this kind of question. You'll never get a straight answer. Third go to:

We as humans can't be holy on our own. We have sin in our lives, but there is good news! Jesus died as a sacrifice for our sins and God raised Him from the dead. From that moment on, if we accept Christ as our Savior, our sins are forgiven. The only way we can become holy is by leaning on God to cleanse us from our sins. We can't do it on our own or by our own efforts.

You are a child of God. Therefore, you are already holy. Focus your efforts on what you can do to be a good person and help others.

i asume by holy you mean near to god rather than having holes in (otherwise ram a folk through your body). By the very nature of the imperfect human race no being can be close to god as we can't understand the true nature of god so we can only go on through life (according to st ireanus) on our soul making journey to develop our soul bringing us closer to god through chosing good over evil until we are ready for heaven.

Humans are so imperfect that to be "holy" is one way to be mentally deranged. Sorry if my cynicism is offensive. But some truth must be told. You can act "correctly" and "responsible". But to be some "Saint Francis", that's tough! Impossible more like it.

Do like Mother Teresa, collect for the poor, but give it all to the Vatican. In other words, be a shill for the pope. ;-)
