The idea of what we "want" to see is almost always determined by the media, not the public. That is ususally why you can notice a different spin on each story, depending on the source. Now they all seem to be backpedalling on this issue, because so many have taken issue with it. They have been caught with egg on their faces, and the media now has the task of trying to repair the damage. Our senses have already been infiltrated by these images and how can they erase them from our memories? By an apology, and the promise to air the images "judiciously"? I agree, I feel that it was unnecessary to do it, someone up there at the top was asleep at the wheel on this one.
I am sorry for your loss.

I too, am very sorry for you.
I am sadden by all those senseless killings, at VT. I really feel bad, for the Families and Friends of the victims, especially since they keep showing and talking about this over and over again. Imagine, how they feel.
They will stay on this like a Fly on S--t. That is until the next hot story comes about. Anything for ratings, and a few more Bucks.
Have a Blessed Day.

To be quite honest, the media loves pain. Pain and misery sell papers; boost ratings. There was a time when they would censor themselves but with the advent of hundreds of cable TV channels and the internet, they now try to out do each other with the outrageous.
Who is worse? Them for showing us or us for watching? I have not seen, nor do I intend to see this sick man's video or read his writings. If they serve some useful purpose to those in the mental health field of study let them have them. Othewise I would just as soon they burned them.

Look, the media's job is to report the news. I agree, they should nix those broadcasts of the VT perpetrator's face, but why not just turn off your television (or don't watch the news). You can control what you watch and what you read in the newspapers and here on the Web. The story is now beginning to wane just as any news story does after 3-4 days, and in a couple more days it will be back page news.

the media is not at all concerned about the pain of the public. they are like any other business, they are driven for profit, and for them, ratings =money.
steve cadmus, the bigwig at nbc, was quoted on the imus thing as saying (paraphrased) "we made a decision to drop the show, a decision that makes a statement to the quality of what our viewing audience wants and doesn't want, we did it for them for the the good of america".
then this *** airs the entire manifesto of this lunatic under the guise of "we need to learn from it, learn what's inside this kids head" all this did was throw disturbing images into the public after it was already OBVIOUSLY shaken. then he gave it out to the other media dogs, but with the "courtesy of nbc (with logo)" embedded into it. the only thing to learn from it is how to copycat, which by the way is happeneing with bomb threats etc because every weirdo is seeing all the attention this lunatic got and wants it too.
don't misunderstand me though, i have no problem with the media supplying the public with what it wants to see and reaping the ratings for it....but the hypocracy of it all and this *** steve cadmus coming off all righteous on imus and then justify his actions here is deplorable.
i mean come on dude, just say you were supplying the public with news they want to know about.....and with imus just say we dropped the show because it was no longer profitable after the sponsers bailed. for pete's sake just be honest! radio and tv are a business, nothing more, and to make them out to be more is just the american people kidding themselves. these don't care one iota about morals and responsibility, they want TO MAKE A PROFIT, nothing more. again, i have no problem with that if YOU JUST FREAKING SAY THAT !!!

The media cares about turning a profit and as much as is possble.
sorry for your loss.
Personally, I think this should have been reported and none of the videos or photos, etc made public.. maybe excerpts of the 'manifesto' but their giving him exactly what he wanted.. that should be denied.

in the news media business, there is no such thing as caring ,compassion or consideration for peoples feelings. if it will make a buck do or say anything regardless. freedom of the press gives them power that no other system has. that is often abused is evident in this tragedy.
