you can do that yourself, and save a heap of money, its not hard.just take off the intake, the valve covers, loosen the rockers and pull out the push rods,(take a piece of cardboard and number it,and put holes in it and put each push rods in the holes,so you dont get them mixed up)pull out the lifters and clean out the bores and before you install them, pump each 1 up,with new oil,so you wont have a dry start up,and do the same with the others.put a new intake gasket on it and,for adjustment of the rockers(after you install the push rods)put the lifters on the low cam of your cam,and torque the rockers, whick it calls for,and do the same with the others.put new valve pan gaskets on it and start the engine(but let it idle for a while, and your set to go.i might make it sound hard, with all this writing, but its not hard, just time consuming.

You have to remove the head(s). You will see the push rod and that goes down to the lifters. They make a tool you can pull the lifter with. Sometimes carbon not make this easy, but, a person can do it with thought and a Repair Manual. What you may try first is a cleaner that remove carbon. You pour it into the oil and drive according to instructions and then do an oil change. I can not remember the name, but, I bought this stuff at "O'Rielly's auto parts" and it smell like paint thinner to me.

It's not hard to do. The tough part is getting to the lifters. You need to disconnect a lot of wires and parts just to be able to get to them. $500 is worth it. If it was an older car where you could get to the engine block easily, I would say yes. However, if you have the room and the time and money is tight, buy a good repair manual and follow their directions carefully.

If the noise goes away in a minute or two just forget about it there is nothing wrong it's normal for hydralic lifters to be noisy when you first start up.
