Honest Abe.... That is funny, Sister.

My favorite is Teddy Roosevelt but he was before my time. I wouldn't have dated him anyway.

I like TR because he was not in the mold of the Republican of his day, or today for that matter. He was a progressive. Because of him we have more national parks to enjoy, we don't allow child labor, we have 5 day work weeks and shorter than 12 hour work days. He was a trust buster. While he walked softly and carried a big stick he knew to use the big stick only as a last resort. He was also a man with a great sense of humor and was kind of funny looking to boot.

Here goes a potentially controversial answer (and most likely unpopular).

I think that my favorite US President has to be Lyndon Johnson.

Internationally, he did what he felt was necessary to stop the 'domino effect' of Communism spreading. By fighting battles in SE Asia, the communist's support was much weakened in places such as Indonesia, S America and India (which had every potential to go into a communist revolution).

Socially and domestically, his presidency saw many of the civil rights acts and women's rights acts that we know pushed through legislation and made law. President Johnson was one of the strongest and most influencial proponents in the 1960s of the civil rights movement. He also helped strengthen welfare for the citizens of the usa (I believe the stat was 18%) that lived below the poverty line - this was called "The War on Poverty".

It's a shame that Lyndon Johnson's presidency has been blackened by a perceived loss of Vietnam. That war was lost in the US Public, not in Vietnam itself where the USA was victorious in every single battle it fought.

Johnson also strengthened the US's position on the Middle East and it's involvement and security of the oil there although prior to the OPEC crisis of 1972-73 it was a much different policy of 'hands off'.

George Washington wins easily.

He was offered the job of King and turned it down. He decided that after 2 terms, he needed to step down.

Why? George Washington knew that the concept of the REPUBLIC would only work when elections determined the leaders demonstrating the democracy at work to the people.

George Washington had the HONESTY AND INTEGRITY to be President which is a lot more than anyone else who has served.

I have to agree with bukroo and say George Washington.
He defined the role of President in his choices while in office. We saw that the President must stand for all the people of this great country and act in their best interests.

He was offered virtually unlimited power and refused it. Unlike the Presidents of modern times who pursue absolute power regardless of consequences to "We the People".

My favorite president is Peyton Randolph, mostly because I win bar bets knowing that he was really the first president, since most people are totally unaware of the fact that George Washington was actually the fifteenth person to be president. I also like him because he served the shortest amount of time as president, six weeks the first time elected, and two weeks the second.

Al Noto - he was president of the Ed-Lark Girls Softball league for 8 years - really advanced the orginazation. Built the new snack bar and the 2nd field. Really pushed the hot dog sales at the games - you could always here him say "don't be a meanie, buy your kid a weenie"

RIP - Al

John Fitzgerald Kennedy ! ! !

Not only was he the most honest president, since Harry S. Truman, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and Honest Abe, himself, but he was also a true American hero.

Tie between Abe Lincoln and Harry Truman. Both got stuck with massive country threatening wars and had to make decisions no other American has had to do.

But both once attacked unleashed hell against the opponent.

I don't envy either of them their experiences
