he doesn't fit into the "QB mold" so to speak. the QB mold is a 6'4" or higher, and obviously Troy Smith does not fit this mold, that is one reason people don't see him as a good QB for the NFL. he may have trouble seeing over the Offensive line or defensive line after the snap.
seconldy wheter he won the championship game or not his stock would have dropped, in all his games the scouts noticed he releases the ball late, which is very bad in the NFL since balls could be swated down more easily AND at his height he needs to release at a higher area. he lacks a complete arm motion in his throw which could cause the ball to sail the wrong way when there is wind. and the pro day he did not do well either. ran a 4.77, which is not good for a scrambling QB, if people wanted to draft Troy smith it would be for his legs, but a 4.77 compared to other srambling QBs like the 4.25 Vick has or a 4.53 Vince Young has. even Jamarcus russell ran a 4.4x and Brady Quinn is 4.8 (.03 slower) and Quinn is a pocket passer.
winning or losing that game his stock would have dropped no matter what. scouts already did not like him as a first round QB well before that championship game. winning that championship game however might have made him a late 2nd rounder instead of a 3 or 4th rounder.

There are more things in question about Troy Smith than his title game performance. His contemporary Brady Quinn was 0-3 in bowl games, yet he's thought of as no lower than a top 3 pick. Troy Smith's 5-11 stature is a problem, as the NFL has not warmed to the short QB's although Drew Brees and Michael Vick have pulled it off, and of course Doug Flutie. He's probably destined to be a career backup/spot starter. He can go in as a #3 QB and possibly work his way up, spend some time in NFL Europe.

Troy Smith would have dropped irregardless of how many times Florida chewed up that team and then spit them out. His performance in the combines (or lack thereof) plus his attitude would have dropped him big time.
Before the NC game I still would have pegged him at rounds 2 or 3.
And to those comparing him as a steal just like Brady...per his attitude and performance, Brady was a steal because of one thing Smith hasn't shown when it counts - work ethic.
For right now, I'd see him in rounds 5 or 6 if at all...and all anyone has to do is put Everett or any Gator across from him and he'll wet his pants :-)

Not so much the game its all the "measureables" as scouts call them. He stands 5' 11 1/2" so he is "short" for NFL QB's. They want t guy who can easily see over the line when dropping back to pass. Also, he arm strength is just adequate, where as Quinn and Russell have top notch arms. Also, he didn't have a great combine, throwing running etc. His 40 was decent, but body was questioned as some scouts noted he looked a bit "soft" and not chiseled. Some might interpret that as a lack of committment. This affected Lendale White (RB from USC) last year and caused him to drop a bit in the draft.

The person who answered your questions first, is wrong. that person never watch him. Troy Smith has talent but they dont know if he is just college system QB. He did bad in the bowl game because he played a defense that actually was a big obstacle. He also did bad in the combine and pro workout. He has above average accurancy and average arm strength. That can work in college but not in the NFL. He also is slow, he has the power but doesnt take the advantage.
He will be a steal in the 3rd round. He just need a mentor to teach and mentor him to develop.

He's not that great. He's got a good arm, that's it. He's not as fast as some people like to think he is. He only ran a 4.7-4.8. He doesn't make the best decisions. And I think he'll have a hard time adjusting to the speed of the NFL. He didn't have a great tutelage, and they're are better quarterbacks than him. Russell and Quinn of course, but theirs also Drew Stanton and Kolb, and another quarterback from Stanford. Stanton being the best out of those three. He's better physically than Smith, has a better arm, and is athlectic. He was also a [unt returner in college.

no he definately would not have. His stock may have rised from the very low end of the draft possibly to a 3rd rounder or so, but his style of QB doesn't necessarily fit well with NFL teams. He is small, doesn't have a strong arm, is too quick to get outside the pocket, and his drop back is too quick to have recievers break in their routs.

Troy Smith may be a very overrated player he was all hyped up with Ohio State but in truth he just threw it up and let his receivers go get it. He is quick but not really fast enough to be a straight scrambler like Vince young.
He really has potential now though he just needs intense training to get his skills precise

No, as of right now he is not pro material, he is nothing like a Quinn or Russel, he will eventually grow into that, but he has accuarcy issues and he isnt that tall. but great athlete. And those of you comparing him to Vick or young he is not that caliber of QB he is more of a McNabb, Culpepper type of QB without the size of course. And a QB doesnt need Running back speed to be successful in the NFL, just great mechanics, which he lacks abit.

Troy Smith is a good player. He has a good arm, pretty good accuracy, and a desire to win. NFL Scouts don't believe Troy is big enough to play QB. Also, he cracks under pressure.
