She's three and she failed her eye test at school, so she has an appoitment today with an opthamologist to look into getting glasses and every time her daddy teases her saying she's gotta go get glasses today she goes "Hot diggity dog!"

Cute. Possibly its just a novelty. Or maybe she's just sick and tired of having bad eyes.

When I was young, I raved about my new glasses--then I lost them a week later. Another instance was that I forced my parents into getting me braces--despite the fact that my teeth were in good shape.

I think children, have this perception, that being different is cool--it's like, "being one" with the grown-ups. Glasses = older people = grown up.

It's something new, it's like getting a toy for her. She wouldn't understand that having faulty eye perception's not all cracked up as it's supposed to be.

Let her enjoy, get her a cute one and brace yourself for the day that she might want to get contact lenses.

Because, at three years old, toddlers are carefree of what others might think of them and glasses are a whole new element to her, she must think its pretty natural and even cool to get glasses. She may not be as enthusiastic when she gets older so I think this is pretty natural for a three year old to act like this, they want to stand out of the crowd.

I'm sorry your daughter failed her eye exam but at least she is excited about the glasses. She might feel like she's more grown up in them and will ignore any teasing.

well i wasnt that young when i got my first pair of glasses, 13 actually. but when i was prescribe with them, i thought i looked intellectual and different in them.. (i thought i looked ugly when i was 13.)

so even though i didn't need to wear my specs all the time, i just wore it! thinking that i look good.. haha.. ah well.. the insecurities of teenage years..

but since your daughter is 3.. perhaps she is just excited about the idea? and mayb she thinks that glasses are an adult thing? so with her getting a pair she thinks she's a grown-up? you know how kids are when they are small.. always wanting to be a grown up.. =)

Because when some people wear glasses, all the knowledge in the world becomes theirs. Wearing glasses just makes some people look and be smarter.
And.......If she is excited about glasses, you may want to make sure her sight is bad yourself. She might be just trying to get glasses.

Lol! Cute! Just found out my 7 year old son needs reading glasses and was worried that he would think it's "uncool". i overheard him telling his cousin that he might not be good at his schoolwork, but he must be smart coz he gets to wear glasses, and only smart people wear glasses. Also thinks it's so cool coz Billy the Blue power ranger wears glasses too!

My son was surprisingly excited also at getting glasses. He said it was a cool thing. So apparently, glasses are some sort of positive status symbol in school these days....

Tell her to stop laughing and getting excited because I think wearing glasses destroys your eyes.

I cant tell you exactly why she wants glasses but I also dont have glasses and really want them. Does she have braces or anything else like that? Because I dont have anything like that to make me different and I think thats why I want them, to make me different(a little). Maybe one of her friends have them and she wants to be like them. Or maybe she just wants to stand out and be different (even though shes three).
