Assuming that people would believe me, the tsunami. The numbers affected are almost unimaginable. That's almost four times the population of the city where I live. It's like wiping out the entire population of Birmingham, Alabama or Norfolk, Virginia.

The number quoted for people killed due to 9/11 isn't really accurate, though. It was a trigger for the continuing war in Iraq (right or wrong, it WAS a trigger). Even so, we aren't approaching the numbers of those killed by the tsunami. Also, there's no way to be sure that if 9/11 hadn't happened, there wouldn't have been some other excuse to go to war. We - humans - seem to be very good at finding reasons to kill each other.

Well American intelligence KNEW that Osama Bin Laden had called a Jihad on the US and we had several very good indications that Al Queda terrorists were planning to cause mass carnage by flying into buildings. Basically, even though the government had every indication that this was coming, and they still did not prevent the attacks, I'm not sure additional intelligence would have made a difference.

As for the Tsunami, you can't stop nature, and where would those hundreds of thousands of people even go. So many people in poverty couldn't have gotten out, so many people would have refused to leave their homes (it's very common in natural disasters that people just _won't_ leave).

Still, given that information, I'd warn about the tsunami, since we're SURE some people could have been saved, and the carnage was simply so much greater.

Actually, a lot of countries offered their help after 9-11 and Katrina. In fact, after the hurricane one of the poorest countries in Africa to send us a couple doctors and the equivalent of $250,000. That was really touching, because for that country, it was a lot of money. After 9-11, people in other countries had candle light memorials for us. It was a genuine outpouring of sympathy. Don't be too hard on other countries. They can't always help on the massive scale the U.S. does. Even a country like Slovakia (beautiful country, 5 million people)... although it is not an extremely poor country, it does not even have enough money to buy fuel for its jet fighters, so when their pilots are trained, they're lucky if they get to take a test flight. A lot of countries offered to help after 9-11, but as a practical matter, the U.S. had to politely decline their offers. Sometimes, it is just not feasible to accept aid.

Good question.

How long beforehand are we talking about?

The World Trade Centre and its close surroundings could have been cleared of people in less than 24 hours.
That cannot be said of the area affected by the tsunami.

So, if you give me 24hrs notice, 9/11
With 6 weeks notice, the tsunami.

You seem to ask a lot of questions that pit US massacres against forgein ones. Why not a choice between Boxing Day or the Darfur? How about 9-11 vs. Virginia Tech? Seems to me you have an agenda with these questions.

American intelligence knew that an attack was going to take place – so my warning would achieve nothing.

The Tsunami was totally unpredicted, and killed hundreds of thousands of people, so I choose the Boxing Day Tsunami.

Neither. Things happen for a reason, people are born, people die. It wouldn't be up to me to disclose God's plan for anyone. However, if it came down to having to answer, I'd say I'd forewarn those about the Tsunami. Reason........Bush Administration knew the Taliban would come after them as they had several times before (remember 1993 attempt?), however the people didn't know the Tsunami was coming. It's a tragedy.
