I am 18 years old, and I am 7 weeks pregnant (please don't judge me) I am trying to think about baby names. I'd like names that are unique, and new. But when they are said there's not a huge reaction like..."oh my word who would call a child that" Sort of thing. eg. Apple, Brooklyn.

I also like names that are old fashioned such as Bethany, and ruth, but are there any spin offs of those names?
Help is greatly appreciated.

Congratulations on your baby.

I've always been a fan of giving a child an unusual first or middle name and then a usual opposing name (first if the middle is odd, middle if the first is odd), that way, even if you call them by the different name, they can choose to go by the more common one if they want.
That said, I'll give you my name picks:

Girls:
Petra Kristin
Maureen Lynn
Jedda Ann
Shannon Talia
Daria Jean

Boys:
Rowan Thomas
Michael Alonse
Daniel Carter
Braeden Alder (I kind of have a thing for tree names)
David Collin

I include a GREAT name site below. Ultimately, it has to be your choice. Write down names as you see them and, when your child is born, you'll know the right name.

First of all, congratulations. Why judge you? You are bringing a child in the world and that is beautiful.
Second, I advise you to use a proper name, original and rare, but not anything like apple etc.
Being Greek, I would advise you to choose a name from the Greek mythology. They are beautiful and rare names: How about Electra, Antigone, Kassandra, Daphne or Cleopatra for a girl, and Orestes or Hermes or Ares or Solon for a boy.

If you like older names that are unique look to some of the less commonly used biblical names: Ester, Ruth, Ishmael, Jonah, Ezekiel, Zebadiah. Check out the old testament, there are some beautiful names there that won't be commonly heard on the playground.

Hiya.

First of all - congratulations :-)

I'm glad that you want an unusual name but not one of those trendy names. Don't go too far with the name (unusual spellings are generally ugly, and unique variations may sound cute now, but remember your child will be an adult one day).

As far as spin-offs go, I think it's always best if you give your child a 'normal' name, but use a 'spin-off' as a nickname.

My favourite girls' names are:
Amelia
Grace
Madeleine
Naomi

My favourite boys' names are:
Sebastien
Daniel

Don't have any others so I may as well give you mine - Adam!

If you want a unique name think of old names
Like your grandparent's grandparents
you know I wanted the same thing when I named my daughter
I named her from 4 different ppl

Mary Adlyne Katherine

She goes by Adlyne which is not very common its a old name and we call her Addie
but jsut think of things you like
I mean I almost named her Dolphina cause i like dolphins lol

Congrats on your baby, and I must say for 18 you sound incredibly mature. Now to answer your question. I love names and already have mine picked out. They are Magdalen Grace (Maggie), Marrin Rose, Elaina Marie (Ellie), Gabriel Steven (Gabe), Jacob Ross ( Jake), and Connor James. But some other good ones are Evelyn, Isabella, Arabella, Amelia, Wyatt, Michael, Aidan, and Benjamin.
