In logging into Yahoo.ca this morning, this was a headline. The article stated that in a study, it was determined that the healthcare in Canada was - in some cases - better than that in the US. They were looking at the quality of care and the outcomes.

This is not to bash the US, but I'm hoping that it will shed a light on the possibilities of national healthcare.

Okay...about prescription drug cost...why do so many Americans want to purchase their drugs from Canada, and why has the US govt made it illegal to purchase prescription drugs from Canada?

Our governement would like all of us to think Canada is a 3rd world nation when it comes to healthcare. But it's the other way round, unless you have mega bucks to AFFORD our healthcare.
Any healthecare is better then NONE.

The biggest flaw with this study is (of course) all the way at the end. Because issue driven columnists know that most people only read about half way to two thirds of the way into an article. **If you want to find the answers read the last part of most articles**.

DRUG COSTS. That is the main reason Canada can get away with lower health care costs. BECAUSE WE IN AMERICA SUBSIDIZE THERE PRESCRIPTION DRUGS.

If we were to demand that pharmaceutical companies to cut their prices, research and development would cease, no new products would come to market. There are enormous costs in finding, formulating and acquiring Federal approval for prescription drugs. The price Canada pays simply would not cover it. That is part of the reason our costs are so high. We subsidize Canada.

Yes if you search long and hard enough youre going to find examples where your wait-in-line govt hospitals actually function better than hospitals here.

The US doesnt subsidize the drug industry here. That means they have to turn a profit without a handout from the govt.

Look, the bottom line is that "health care" isn't a part of the federal powers granted in the US Constitution.

Want federally-run health care? Great! Put it in the constitution! But that hasn't happend...
