They certainly could. I think they are kind of stuck. Taking a WR for so many years only yielded Roy Williams. Here they will have an opportunity to perhaps add another that might be very special, but you'd have to think there is a level of apprehension there due to Millens odd picks in the past.
The consensus right thing to do is to draft Joe Thomas and shore up the O-line. Last year the Jets to Brick Ferguson, another left tackle, at #5 and it helped them considerable. On the other hand quinn and maybe Russell will by there (the top two QBs) and certainly Kitna is not the future. Should be interesting.
Will they screw it up? Probably.

The only way the Lions would screw this up is if they trade way down from the #2 spot, like out of the top 10 because they need to get a top 10 prospect to help them out...........The smartest pick would be a Brady Quinn or Joe Thomas........but if they feel that they need another reciever which i personally dont think they do (Look for a breakout season from their new reciever Shaun McDonald) they could get Calvin Johnson. I personally think that if Brady Quinn is on the board they have to take him........he is most ready for the NFL since he has been personally endorsed by Charlie Weiss (A man that Tom Brady credited with his development) for two years. If not him I say they get Joe Thomas to help the O-Line or Gaines Adams to help their pass rush which wouldnt be a bad idea because their secondary isnt looking too great at this point after losing Dre Bly.

I dont think they will screw up this year but hey you never know. What they should really do is trade that second round pick to who ever bids the highest because they do nt have any needs that couldn't be addressed in the first round. They have 9 overall draft picks in the 2007 draft with 4 of them coming in the 5th round. They should trade a willing team their first round pick for the team they trades first round andtry to squeeze maybe a 2 or 3 round and a 6 or 7th round. Now mind you Kitna is pretty old (36) but he can still play iun the NFL. The Lions need to maybe think about their QB of the future but they can be looked at either late this year or early in next years draft. A good draft prospect for them would be that QB from BYU he seems to have a good grib on the game and some skill in moving in the pocket. They also need DE,OT,CB,LB, and TE all which there are great first round and second round prospects. They have a high powered offensive if they can protect Kitna then they can maybe have a winning record this year.

Understand me when I say this....NEVER, and I mean NEVER underestimate the stupidity of Matthew George Millen, President/CEO of the Detroit Lions. If they aren't going to draft Calvin Johnson (and it wouldn't surprise me a bit if they did), they should trade down to a team that's lusting for the services of Calvin Johnson or Joe Thomas. They have no outstanding NEED for the services of either player, so a trade helps the Lions and the other team involved. If they stay at #2, the dream scenario would be for the Raiders to take Johnson, leaving Russell available for the Lions. But again...
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE STUPIDITY OF MATTHEW GEORGE MILLEN!!
And dude, lay off of Charlie Casserly and the Houston Texans. I love that man. He is a football god, okay? His stupidity helped give th e New Orleans Saints the #1 offense in the NFL last year and a 10-6 record. I have nothing but kind words to say about that man. I have petitioned to Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco and Saints owner Tom Benson to have a bronze statue of Casserly placed in front the Superdome, and that he be enshrined into the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame. If I wasn't a Christian, I'd worship that man.

Passing on Bush was a horrible decision, but Vince Young wan't looking that good on draft day. It was a big surprise when he was taken third. The Lions are probably going to take Joe Thomas or Gaines Adams. Those are likely picks at number 2. It might be dissapointing but those guys need some time to become good players. It might look like a bad draft pick, but it probably won't be.
P.S.- Picking Dwayne Jarrett #2 would be the worst pick in draft history

Are you kidding me? Houston had one of the best drafts last season. People who really know football can tell you that even now the Texans are not regreting passing on Reggie Bush. Even if you really think that Reggie Bush does fit Houston's system (which he doesn't) Getting a stud like Demeco Ryans in the second round is a steal. They also picked up two OT's in the 3rd round. Owen Danials is starting to come along on his own. Plus Wali Lundy in the 6th round ended up starting and producing in a couple of games.

Not unless they choose a QB like Quinn or a RB like Peterson from OU. They need a top-notch QB.

It's quite possible, I believe Millen is capable of winning any screw up contest.

It is physically impossible to screw up a draft more than Houston did last year.
