Why is it called a "stop sign" when most people drive through them without ever actually stopping?

Ah! There are several words missing in that statement. It's been shortened to save time, and not confuse people (like G. Bush) who can't remember more than three words at a timer. Its' really
"DRIVE up, wait, drive a bit further, order, wait, pay, wait, drive a bit more, wait, collect the products (I won't say "food"), drive THROUGH to the exit, wait, then go.

Why do we park on a driveway and drive on a parkway? Why do people insist on calling it an ATM machine or a PIN number? People are highly unintelligent and like the contradictions and redundancies.

because calling it a drive through does not imply that there are not stops.... in fact, you do drive through... in between stops
