1-2.5 lbs is safest. It also depends on how overweight you are and how active you have been recently. If you are 100 lbs overweight and are just trying to start exercising and eating right you may loose more at first. But if you are 20 lbs overweight and have an active, healthy lifestyle, you might only loose 1 lbs a week. Also keep in mind that muscle weighs more than fat, so if you are working out, especially weight lifting, you won't loose weight as quickly. You'll loose fat and slim down, but replacing that fat will be heavier muscle. Good luck!!!

About 1 to 2 lbs (.45 to .9 kg) per week. If you lose weight faster than this, then the extra weight loss will be muscle. This will slow down your metabolism and cause you to gain it back.
