The koalas' staple diet is eucalyptus leaves. Thats the kind of trees they cling to (or rather live on). If you have seen one at its natural habitat before, you would notice that they are always in a dreamy state. One of the properties of the eucalyptus is that it has a very calming effect like the camomile flowers. Its is also the main source of liquid for the koalas, like the fact you have already stated.

Eucalyptus leaves are the koala's exclusive diet. Different koalas are dependant on different eucalypts for their diet as well - it's not just a matter of any eucalypt - you can't just grow any gum tree and expect the koala to be fed. Koalas move from tree to tree at night finding new leaves to eat.

Logging and bushfires can affect the koala's natural habitat but they have successfully been raised in captivity.
