A friend of mine has a car stereo that works perfectly fine, except it will not eject the CD when the eject button is activated. Its not an expensive deck, but I would rather not have her buy a new one. Is there a way to reset the deck or manually override the eject button?

I'm a mechanical engineer, so I'm clueless when it comes to circuits, but I'm willing to try anything.

Various decks can be reset in various ways. Many have a very small, recessed button on the front face that you can press with a pen tip. In some cases, the same button may be on the front of the chassis under the detachable face; you'd have to remove the face to access it. JVC decks often use a combination of buttons for the reset function; ie, press the power and SEL buttons at the same time. If none of these options are available, you may be able to reset the head unit just by disconnecting the vehicle's negative battery terminal for a moment.

You should definitely try a reset before you try taking the unit apart. That problem is very commonly fixed with a reset.

some deck have a small reset button on the face, if not I would unplug the battery then hook it back up, then try to eject the cd. if it still doesnt work then the cd eject motor is probably burned so cut your losses and buy a higher end deck so you can avoid this problem in the future

I know on some c.d. players there is a way to do it. Try this HOLD BOTH the POWER and EJECT button down at the same time and see if the eject resets. I have done this to a few head units and it has worked. let me know what happens....

Sounds like there is a problem with the stereo its self. Speakers couldnt be bad if they work on fm. The best bet would be take it to your nearest Car audio store and find a really cheap casset player to replace that one. If its still a little to much look on ebay. there are bound to be some stock stereos for your Taurus.

Sounds like its just worn out, youd be better off getting a new one. there isnt a reset button or a manual way, sounds like the eject motor is bad.

take it apart and jump the eject button with metal

the button only has two wires connected to it cross the two for a second while powered up this will work if the button is broke

if it dont work when you do this then an electical problem in the curcit board is bad and is to complex to explain better to send it in to get repaired

its cheap to send it to the manufactuer

Disconnecting the power from the set for several minutes then reconnecting can sometimes cure a fault of this nature

the eject button contacts are probably dirty, providing that this function is electrical.
