The Law of the Power

The Power shall not be used to bring harm, to injure or control others. But if the need rises, the Power shall be used to protect your life or the lives of others.

The Power is used only as need dictates.

The Power can be used for your own gain, as long as by doing so you harm none.

It is unwise to accept money for use of the Power, for it quickly controls its taker. Be not as those of other religions.

Use not the Power for prideful gain, for such cheapens the mysteries of Wicca and magick.

Ever remember that the Power is the sacred gift of the Goddess and God, and should never be misused or abused.

And this is the law of the Power.
This being the law, is it wrong to work a spell on someone close to me because of problems with alcahol and anger issues? Is that affecting their free will? Is it classed as harming another? Do i really have to tell the person and gain permission?
Thank You for your oppinions.

I see someone has been reading Scott Cunningham. :-)

Unless you are doing so with their knowledge and permission, then yes, casting spells "behind their back" is definitely messing with their free will and arguably in conflict with the Wiccan Rede. If you feel called upon to do so because the person is a danger to you and/or your children, you can certainly do so, but the Rule of Three will be fully in effect and you must be prepared for the consequences.

I wish you the best of luck.

Yes, there are a lot of Pagans, even a few Wiccans in here

Casting spells on other people is generally not to be done. They generally do not work. Attempting to control other people is never a good idea.

Try some mundane ways to solve your problem.

Protect yourself. Possibly remove yourself from the situation.

Controlling them would be controlling them. It did say, if you are concerned for their life, then an exception could be made. Rather then praying for a lifetime of sobriety, you could pray that the person in question sobers up long enough to consider what they are doing, and decides for themselves.

Make sure to be specific about how long is long enough. You don't want them in prison thinking about it.

Yes it is considered effecting their free will. Yes you should gain permission first. Although it may not appear to harm another - there are consequences for your actions. But with permission the consequences are non-existent for both you and them.

Ordinarily, it would be considered manipulation, but in this situation, you are doing the person more good than harm. However, it would be best to find out if the person at least wants your help first, if so, it would be much easier to help them.
