I've heard several people say that the forbibben "fruit" was sex. (in Genesis) I looked it up and I couldn't see how they could say it was sex, because before Adam and Eve sinned, the Good Lord told them "Be fruitful and increase in number" That was in Genesis 1:28. The fall of man didn't happen until Genesis 3, so what I'm asking is has anybody else heard anybody say this?

I don't believe that sex was the forbibben fruit, but it does disturb me to think that somebody would think that the "fruit" was actually sex, especially when before the fall of man, God told them to go and increase in number.

Hi Tracy211,
i have heard someone argue this before, although at the time i thought it was an argument derived from this particular individual. i'm not sure if there is some teaching out there like this...
As many have expressed it obviously does not make sense, and i think often there is a picture of Christians that is inaccurately painted. God and Christians don't think sex is a bad thing as long as it is in its proper context: a monogomous heterosexual marriage.
Hope that helps. Kindly,
Nickster

Any Christian who thinks that the forbidden fruit was sex is not familiar with their Bible. God created sex to be enjoyed in the marriage relationship, so God approves of sex in the context He authorized.
The Fall of Adam and Eve resulted from their decision to try independence from God. They decided that maybe obedience to God wasn't really the best thing.
Now we've have ample proof throughout all of time since that this was a big mistake.
Thank God for Jesus, who came to save us from our sins and restore to us life eternal!

Yes I have heard it before. People seem to need to say something when they don't actually know. Many think that it was a apple off of the tree of knowledge. I guess it could have been sex, and it could have been an apple, but with the same type of reasoning, it could have been nose picking, and raspberries.
At least the apple and the raspberry are related!

No I hadn't heard it before now. Fruit and fruitful are two different things. I think the bible says the fruit was from a tree which kind od elimitates sex as being the "fruit".

No it cannot be. The forbidden fruit was plucked from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Eve took the fruit and ate it (Gen 3:6)

If God told them to be fruitful and multiply, It is likely that they had sex before they sinned. How could God tell them not to have sex as if that were the forbidden friut? How else would they multiply? My take on it is this: Satan had already fallen and became evil. God wanted man to stay innocent and know nothing of this evil. But in order to do that they had to stay obedeint to Him. This is what the command "don't eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil" means. In other words obey me and never have to know what evil is. But by listening to Satan instead they lost their innocence and instantly knew that they were wrong.
Genesis 3:5 Tells us what the real temptation was. Satan said you will be like God. Trying to be like God was a sin! That should say a lot about the sin of self-righteousness and judgmentalism. They are like the first sin. People want to be like God. They want that power and they don't want to obey Him when he says "humble yourselves and you will be exaulted" But that is truly following God because God humbled Himself to become a human. So we follow God by being humble, and we don't follow Satan when he tells us how to be like God.
What it means when it says they knew they were naked, is that they lost their innocence and now were aware of a sin called lust. They saw it in eachother and they saw it in themselves. That does'nt mean having sex was a sin.

Obviously, sex is an inherent and essential part of the human life and process. Anyone who says sex is an unnatural "sin" is undoubtedly misled (why would we even have the capability?) While some hold that sex outside of marriage or adultery is certainly wrong, without sex, none of us would be alive.
I've heard this thing stated before, and I still cannot understand the absolute ludacracy of it...

I have never heard that before and i have always heard it as the tree of knowledge of good and evil and that when they ate it they would know the difference between good and evil. You are right about where you find all of that and i am glad you are looking this up in the Bible. Again I have not heard that and whoever said that was completely wrong or given the wrong info.

No. Although it would be an interesting pun if it did mean that. Be 'fruitful' and increase in numbers. Maybe that's the source of the confusion.
