Man with insecurity is a nuisance as he will rely on you, if he just cannot get over a earlier relationship after your assurance than I suggest you review your relationship seriously as it has signs of weakness.
We can never assure anything as there is fate and what will happen will happen.
So tell him to shape up and both of you settle down or ship him out and go to the sea for the next ship.

You can't.
It is his problem and not yours. He has to understand that. He has to recognise that. He has to deal with it.
If he doesn't acknowledge it then I think your relationship has a serious problem. Any relationship he is in will have the same problem. An example of that is the proposal. Beware of any jealous, controlling behaviour.
Remember any relationship is based on mutual trust. Why did the other relationship fail? Was it due to his insecurities? Talk to him and help him through his problem, get professional help if needed.
This problem will need to be fixed if the relationship is going to develop further.

Nothing, you say will prove anything. Nail yourself to the kitchen floor won't prove anything. Buy some pt leather pumps, fishnet with a bead, and a vinyl skirt, and a red top of some kind which is skin tight, and ties at the breast line. He'll never leave. It works great, try it;.

I don't think there is really anything you can say. It's more a matter of time and trust. He is obviously still hurting and it will be hard for him to trust anyone again. My advice is to just to wait and he will eventually come to trust you. I know this will seem really frustrating, but I really don't think there is anything you can do other than hope that one day, he will come to trust you.
