Also what are some of the differences and dow do these differences affect their effectiveness? I have spent the last 2 days trying to find the answers to these questions on the net, without any luck...any help would be appreciated, especially the differences and effectiveness...thanks

They are all connected and report to your state attorney general and the governor of your state. Usually legislative issues for these agencies will be under the same committee in your states house and senate. More than likely your state will have several subcommittees; that deal with each particular agency and their budget, oversight, and so on. I could go on but its late and I am tired.

The vague answer to this question is that they all work together to see that the law and justice are carried out. Police work to enforce laws, courts work to conduct the trials, and correctional agencies carry out sentences imposed on offenders by the courts. They all work together, but each branch has its on responsibility.
