Take into account your interests, if you like playing football search out a local team, interested in First Aid? St. Johns Ambulance. Bit of tomboy, like action packed weekends? Consider the Territorial Army.
All ‘voluntary’ sections will welcome you with no experience, and will give you the experience and training to feel confident in yourself.
My confidence has been boosted by taking up exercise (though I was overweight so it is all part'n'parcel) I've become a runner, a swimmer, and a cycler, takes alot of dedication, but it has changed my outlook to no end.

I really don't give a crap about what other people think of me. I go out side every day and I'm happy to be me I don't have any reasons to be shy or nervous. when you let other people mold you into something that your not that can only lead to disaster. You have nothing to worry about. just be you don't try to be something your not because sooner or later your friends or co workers will begin to see through you and find out who you really are. Don't show off to every body you don't need to go crazy with makeup or expensive clothes or even new cars. I see through people's personality's very easy and I fine that most people who always wear expensive clothing and try to look too good are almost always just doing it to try and get noticed or so they can "fit in". Just be you.

Have good posture- stand up straight, don't slouch, don't look to the floor when you're walking. Smile at people. Have a hairstyle that suits you. Change something that YOU don't like- that could be weight, clothes, make-up, etc. Go to some kind of confidence-building or assertiveness class.
Good luck

The truth is you need to be accepted as you are. Dress up to impress is needed too but the real you has to be wanted by a few people . I guess you are looking fine but you don't feel fine. I feel fine when I feel excited . The excitement is in my aura and my emotions are controlled by my aura. Ask me more specific questions about the aura and managing it if you wish. That is a huge subject and our most important study in life. My opinion.

Your confidence issue roots much deeper than "looking your best". You won't find your answer there. You gotta change how you see yourself and how that relates to how you see the world. I'm here if you want to talk more about it. Simply changing how you look or something trivial like that is a quick fix. It only lasts as long as it takes to do it. I'm here if you want to talk more about it. Just look at my profile to see how to contact me. I'm online now.
